The undulating spur has been the location for the various Middelkerk casinos since 1891. Just before World War I, the first imposing splendid casino arose here. After World War II, the newly rebuilt Norman-style casino opened in 1953. In the 1970s and 1980s, it became a veritable showbiz palace where European stars were guests.
